Nelson Hawkins, Agroecologist and Urban Farmer
I am a husband, father, and founder of We Grow Urban Farm in West Sacramento, CA, holding over 12 years of farming experience. I envisioned building a local regenerative food system that heals the land as we heal ourselves and relationship with the land. In 2018, this vision seed was planted and has grown to 1 acre (half at our original urban site, and half in a nearby town).
We produce a large variety of seasonal fruits/vegetables and make them accessible to low-resourced communities directly and at our summer farm stand. We also supply to some local restaurants, food distribution programs, and the Yolo Food Bank. We provide work opportunities for local youth to learn about sustainable food production and help run our seasonal CSA program.
